Kim Kardashian appears on two different March covers of Vogue India
Cover Pictures Are photographed by Greg Swalws and styled by Anaita Shroff Adjania. She was also seen sparkling in a traditional lehenga skirt, dupatta and blouse from Anita Dongre. Her outfit was on point and so was the aesthetics of the picture. The 37 year old Kim Kardashian reality star described her first cover shoot with Vogue India as ‘beautiful’.
Yet her picture on the cover enraged the Indian audiences quite a bit. Several fans were unhappy because the magazine chose to feature the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star instead of millions of beautiful Indian or Asian women. Their argument was that Kim Kardashian is shown everywhere all the time and taking a spot on Vogue India’s cover robs the opportunity to showcase Indian talent to the world. According to a reader, “India’s Vogue should embrace and feature their own South Asian women instead of choosing someone over pop culture.” Last year another controversy had sprung up when Kendall Jenner had appeared on the cover of Vogue India.
Several people echoed such views but there were also a few people with contradictory opinions. Yusra Siddiqi tweeted that, “People who are hating on @VOGUEIndia for their international cover stars every once in a while really don’t understand how magazines work.” Siddiqi later shared a Wikipedia screenshot showing that of the 26 covers released by the magazine in 2017, all but three featured Indian females.
Vogue India is yet to respond to this particular controversy.
