Loveratri falls into controversy
Salman Khan stirred up a frenzy on social media back in December 2017, when the ‘Bhai’ of Bollywood tweeted that the 5th film, titled ‘Loveratri’, produced under his production house, Salman Khan Films, will feature his brother-in-law, Aayush Sharma.
It was announced that the film will feature another debutant Warina Hussain opposite Aayush Sharma, who is married to Salman’s sister Arpita Khan. Abhiraj Minawala, who had previously assisted Maneesh Sharma (Fan) and Ali Abbas Zafar (Sultan) was brought in to direct the film.
The film, a young love story centered around the festival of Navaratri, is scheduled to be released this year on 5th October. But even before its release, the film has run into a rough patch of controversy.
According to the official statement given by Alok Kumar, International working president of the VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad), ‘The movie is set against the backdrop of Navratri, a Hindu festival, and the name distorts its meaning’. Yet again another film, after last year’s highly controversial Sanjay Leela Bhansali film Padmaavat, has caught the eye of a right-wing fringe group.
The VHP president, while speaking about the film being released around the Navaratri festival, said, ‘We will not allow its exhibition in cinema halls in the country.
We don’t want the sentiments of Hindus to be hurt’.
It will be interesting to see how Salman Khan reacts to this controversy. Will his production house give in under pressure and change the film’s title or will the ‘Dabang’ star stand behind ‘Loveratri’?
