The film, which features Dangal actress Sanya Malhotra and television actress Radhika Madan, tells the story of two sisters, living in a village in Rajasthan, who are constantly at war with each.
Bhardwaj’s Pataakha, which was previously titled Churiyaan, is based on the short story Do Behenein, by Charan Singh Pathik.
The film will also feature Sunil Grover and Vijay Raaz in pivotal roles.
Earlier it was being speculated that the film will be released on October 2 this year, like Bhardwaj’s previous films Talvar and Haider.
But Vishal has finalized September 28 as the release date for Pataakha, which will land it in direct competition with the Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma starrer Sui Dhaaga: Made in India.
Sui Dhaaga: Made in India, produced by Maneesh Sharma and directed by Sharat Katariya of Dum Laga Ke Haisha fame, is reportedly based on Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ campaign.
Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma will be seen together, sharing the screen, for the first time in the film.
It will be interesting to see which one of the two films will be able to pull the audience to theatres and the kind of impact it will have on their box-office collections.
